First-Gen Student Needs Support After Devastating Fire

I'm writing on behalf of my sister, Gaochia Lee, a dedicated student at Dougherty Family College. She is on track to graduate with her Associate’s degree this spring and plans to continue her education at the University of St. Thomas to earn her Bachelor’s. She will also be the first among our siblings to graduate from college—a milestone our entire family is proud of.

Last month, Gaochia was involved in a car accident that she was not at fault in, which left her vehicle significantly damaged. Despite the setback, she remained positive and committed to both her education and her home flower business.

Unfortunately, on April 13 at approximately 4:00 P.M., she received devastating news—her landlord informed her that her apartment unit had caught fire. The fire severely damaged her kitchen and living room, destroying many of her belongings. Thankfully, Gaochia was not home at the time, and all residents were able to evacuate safely.

We are reaching out to our community for support in helping Gaochia recover and restore the basic necessities in her home, so she can continue living near campus and stay on track with her studies. Any form of help—whether it's a donation, a kind message, or a prayer—is deeply appreciated.
