Galen is a kind man who has faced more than his share of challenges. I first met him during the summer heat wave, when he was doing his best to stay safe and healthy despite being homeless. Since then, I, along with a few others, have been bringing him food and checking in on him. Galen has always tried to help out where he can, even taking care of an empty warehouse in exchange for a place to stay.

Recently, Galen’s health took a serious turn. He is diabetic, and an infection in his foot became so severe that he had to have both feet amputated. Now, he can’t work and only has enough social security to last him two more weeks. With the cold snap we’re experiencing, it’s no longer safe for him to stay at the warehouse, especially since he needs a sterile environment while his wound is being treated.

Right now, Galen has a clean, warm room at the Lincoln Lodge, which is the best place for him to recover. The funds from this fundraiser will go directly toward covering his room and board at the Lincoln Lodge, and if needed, will help with food and other essentials.
