The day after Christmas, I made the incredibly difficult decision to leave a domestic violence situation that lasted seven years. My main concern, and always my top priority, is the safety, well-being, and stability of my children. I am a mother of 4-year-old twins and a teenage daughter, and I am working hard to rebuild our lives in a loving and safe environment. My abuser was abusive in many, many different ways, including emotionally, psychologically, and physically. He was also financially controlling and restricted my movement by limiting my access to transportation and our shared vehicle, which has made this transition especially challenging. I am currently relying on a family member’s vehicle and am seeking help to cover the cost of licensing and tags so I can safely and reliably get my children to preschool and high school. I am also attending college, and not having a licensed vehicle has caused significant stress and strain as I work to move forward and provide for my family. My community and family resources are limited and unable to offer much additional support. I am in contact with the YWCA and other support networks, but resources are extremely limited, and many needs remain unmet. My children are in immediate need of basic necessities such as clothing, socks, underwear, shoes, jackets, rain boots, and booster seats. Leaving was an act of protection, but rebuilding comes with many obstacles. I am scared, but determined to provide my children with security, consistency, and love. Any support will go directly toward their immediate needs, and any additional funds will help as I continue this long journey, including future child custody hearings. Thank you for helping us take these first steps toward safety and stability.
