Help Fund Stanley School Community Center

Donation protected
We last raised funds a few years ago, and the generous donations we received were utilized to patch the roof of the old gym of the community center and stop a devastating leak. It's not easy caring for a building that is 100 years old, and we appreciate all the help we got from the community and the local media to raise awareness.

Unfortunately, we need to do another significant repair that is estimated to cost $2500. As you can see in the photos, one of the beams along the north wall is rotting and causing the wall to sag. If this isn't addressed, the whole side of the building may collapse. This has already caused issues with the windows. There are also a number of rotted boards across the exterior and broken window panes that need to be replaced so that moisture does not continue to infiltrate and cause issues.

We also need to renew the insurance that enables us to make the community center available for use by the public. The cost has gone up significantly this year and will be approximately $1500.

There is also an issue with water flowing under the building and potentially undermining the piers on the south side. The building also needs to be painted. There are many other less crucial items, but these are the main ones.

We are also seeking to become a 503c organization, which involves a significant fee of nearly $1000. This change would enable us to accept tax-deductible donations.

Our ultimate goal is to revitalize the old Stanley School Community Center into a vibrant, modern facility that could once again be the heart of the community as it used to be in decades past. Unfortunately, the cost of restoring such an old structure and upgrading it with modern commercial appliances and kitchenware is well beyond our means, and the more modest goal of simply keeping the lights on and keeping the building standing and available for the community to use is also slipping away and will continue to do so without the support of the community and those who want to preserve this unique bit of history.

For these reasons, we are asking you to help us raise $5000 for emergency repairs and operating expenses to keep the Stanley School building standing.
