HELP FUND SHABBAT MEALS IN ISRAEL
Donation protected
When I was young my mother always made a full Shabbat table. Roast, Chicken, meatballs and rice, soup, and string beans always took requests and never failed to have a dish for every member of the family on the table. Having a Shabbat meal was always a privilege and a blessing. The table would always be set with fine China and silverware and challot were baked fresh and delicious. As the children got older there were always a few bottles of wine to go around to celebrate Oneg Shabbat with the expanding family, my siblings, and their spouses.
When I moved to Israel, I landed in Tsfat, Tsfat is the second poorest city in Israel. It is a community of artists and scholars and a place of healing. My work in Tsfat changed drastically, coming as a business owner and entrepreneur I have gotten thrust into the role of being a Baal Chesed, helping with all kinds of issues and working behind the scenes to link people with opportunities to give those less fortunate.
For the past 2 years, with the help of a small team, we have been doing Shabbat dinner and lunch for our local community. What started as a small group mushroomed into something significantly larger. Just Shabbat Lunch turned into dinner and lunch and the meals multiplied to 3 households all feeding people and bringing people together on Shabbat each meal hosts over 30 people.
Fine China and silverware turned into plastic plates and forks, a roast is barely an option, and we are lucky to have chicken on the table, but somehow we manage to feed over 30 people for three Shabbat meals at about 1000 dollars a week. Guests come through with what they can, and everyone is happy grateful, and appreciative to come together to sing and share Torah with friends.
We were blessed with a sponsor who generously donated half of our budget and fundraised the difference. We were able to accept donations through a local shul /Kollel through their Shabbat program.
Hashem has given us a real challenge our budget has been cut and our ability to accept donations through the Kollel has ceased.
We are looking to start our 501c3 but until then feel an obligation to continue doing this tremendous work of Chesed that helps people come together on Shabbat.
I am blessed to come from a community of givers. ANY AMOUNT HELPS. We are fortunate to help the less fortunate and the meals sponsored will be on your merit. Please help us cover the next 3 months of meals until we work through setting up and receiving our 501c3 and reach our goal of $12,000
Thank You for your help and generosity and Shabbat Shalom!
