Help Fund Natick's 1st Mountain Bike Area
Donation protected
In August 2024, Natick's Conservation Commission approved a plan to create a new designated mountain bike area in the Hunnewell Town Forest. Construction will start in April 2025, but funding is still needed for the following things:
- Corrugated piping for drainage: Prevents water from building up in between features and berms. Also directs water down the hillside in a controlled manner, rather than creating a drainage rut (and erosion). See "A" in this picture.
- Wood: Features like jumps and berms make bike trails fun to ride, while also being necessary to make turns and avoid natural obstacles. Trail difficulty will be easy to intermediate, with features that correlate with the difficulty of the trail. All features will be optional and well-marked. Tighter berms will require a more solid foundation, which is where wood will be useful. There is also the potential to create a wooden bridge "roll-off" from a large fallen tree.
- Signs: A top priority is ensuring these trails are safe to ride, and that all features will be optional and well-marked. Park S.M.A.R.T. signs will aid in keeping riders in check, as found in most large-scale bike parks. There will also be "uphill only," "downhill only," "B-line," and "Caution: Drop!" signs.
