Help fund my Social Justice Internship in Colombia
Donation protected
Hi I’m Jadyn, a student studying Language, Culture and Communication at university. From a young age, God gave me a heart for justice, especially for those living in poverty or carrying the weight of inequality. Now, I’ve been offered the opportunity to serve in Medellín, Colombia, for three months from March next year through an internship that aligns completely with my faith and calling.
I'll be working with a non-profit that supports vulnerable communities, particularly single mothers who have experienced trauma such as sexual violence and abandonment. Colombia has some of the highest levels of gender-based violence in Latin America, with over 1,000 femicides each year and nearly 12% of women aged 15–49 reporting abuse by a partner in just the last 12 months. This organisation is actively working to change that. Through education in entrepreneurship, technology, hospitality and maths, as well as cultural exchange, they aim to empower these women and their families toward self-sufficiency and generational change.
As part of this internship, I will be:
• Supporting and speaking with women who have experienced trauma and abuse
• Helping deliver educational workshops that empower women with practical skills
• Researching policy developments and social programmes that support women in Colombia
• Contributing to new ideas for supporting women’s self-sufficiency and inclusion
I’ll be learning directly from survivors, listening to their stories, and helping shape real change both on the ground and at the level of research and policy. The goal is to help these women regain independence, stability and dignity, while strengthening the systems that are meant to protect and empower them.
The money I’m raising will go directly toward the programme fee, which covers my visa, accommodation, and transport costs during my time in Colombia. Because the internship is unpaid, your support will allow me to go and give my full time and energy to this work.
I would be truly grateful for any support. Thank you so much for helping make this mission possible.
With Love
Jadyn
