Help Fund Mentorship at BLA!

Who we are: We are current students in the Masters of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) Program at Tufts University, who run this program while managing a rigorous course load hoping that we can become impactful and compassionate physicians and dentists. This spring semester, we started an organization called the Tufts MBS Mentorship Program out of a love of education and passion for healthcare. Over the past few months, our program has partnered with Boston Latin Academy (BLA) to provide mentorship to high school students and instill a passion for STEM and health! We hope, through this program, to encourage our bright, young students to pursue careers in the health sciences and to diversify academia and medicine.

Our mission: Our goal is to get young students interested in healthcare fields such as medicine, dentistry, research, and others by putting together interactive activities and discussions, building a network of healthcare professionals to advise them, and establishing solid and long-standing mentorships with MBS students to support their growth. Our mentors help students with concrete needs such as applying for internships, researching schools, and more, providing them with the advice they need along their path to college and beyond. Following this pilot year, we hope to expand this group further to continue to provide comprehensive programming and activities for BLA students and others in the Greater Boston Area!

How we will use our funds: We plan to offset the costs of our past activities (purchases included petri dishes, lab kits, etc.) and create bigger and better future activities. These activities help our enthusiastic mentees get the most out of participating in our program! To foster our Tufts-BLA community, our students have designed T-shirts for our group’s participants to remember the work we have accomplished together this year. With funding, you can help us create an enduring program that will help students explore their interests in healthcare and medicine to become like the healthcare heroes they admire!
