The fundraiser was set up by myself, Laura Keane. I have worked with St. Munchin's Community Centre for over 5 years. I oversee our Marketing Department. We hope to raise as much as we can for our Meals on Wheels service, the costing at this present time is running high as we are trying to feed the most vulnerable people in Limerick & surrounding areas. The funds raised, will help us with the costing, as well as keep us running for the high demand at the present time. But unfortunately, as of last week, we have had to let some of our staff go due to this virus as we cannot continue paying staff that aren’t the core Meals on Wheels staff, with the way this impact has taken us, like so many of the businesses in Ireland. Recently before the corona virus, we put our fourth meals on wheels van on the roads due to the demand for our services across the city and county of Limerick that we previously could not reach, but right now the demand is so much more. As of today, we have expanded our range to Clarina & Patrickswell. To include more areas, we’ve been in contact with other community centre’s that don’t have a Meals on Wheels service and have lend support offering that we would cook dinners & deliver them to their centres for people to collect them there locally. As of right now, we need to be able to access food through suppliers, because of hotels closing we fear there won’t be as great availability as before. We need people to understand too, that because we’ve closed down parts of the centre, we don’t have certain incomes coming in. We had to close the Hair & Beauty Salon, the florist, the café, afternoon tea etc, which are all our main sources of income. That is why we’re counting on the public to help us to keep going in these uncertain times. We made the decision to reduce the spread of the virus, by restricting access to our café, but we’re still open for collection of dinners from the centre. Please call us before 11am on (061) 458 651. Each day there is more and more calls to the centre for the demand of Meals, so realistically we can’t put a number on it as it changes daily. Before the corona virus, we were delivering about 200 dinners daily but that has risen immensely.
