Every spring, The Projects opens its doors to one of our favorite events of the year: the Annual Tucson High AP Student Art Show.

The Projects (theprojects.art) is a collectively managed, independent art space in Tucson dedicated to centering queer and BIPOC stories, emerging artists, and community-rooted creative work. We currently receive no institutional funding — everything we do is powered by community support, volunteer labor, and love.

Each year, we host this student showcase because we believe young artists deserve a real venue — not a gymnasium, not a hallway display, but a genuine gallery experience where their work is treated with the care and seriousness it deserves. These students have spent a full year developing their artistic voice, and this show is their moment.

What makes this show special is that students own every part of it — from naming the exhibition and designing the promotional imagery, to installing their own work on the walls and taking it down when it's over. This isn't a display curated by adults; it's a fully student-directed experience in a real community art space. We just hold the door open.

The cost of putting on a quality art show adds up fast:

• Installation supplies (hanging hardware, pedestals, labels)

• Lighting and any equipment rentals

• Reception refreshments

• Printed materials and signage

• Cleaning and prep labor

Every dollar raised goes directly toward making this show as beautiful and meaningful as possible for the students and their families.
