My name is Dana Parrott, and I have recently created a nonprofit, Made for More Inc., with the mission of helping individuals like myself to experience the sport I love, Power Soccer.
I have been playing for about seven years, and for all of those years, I have had to travel out of state due to there never being a team in CT. Currently, I drive four hours one way to play with my club team, CNY United. Although this is not ideal for many reasons, this sport has given me so much. Being one of the only sports for power wheelchair users, this sport unlocked a whole new world of possibilities. It gave me confidence, it has taught me leadership and resilience, and so much more. Overall, it has given me an outlet, and it helped me realize that I was made for more than just living and getting by; I was capable of doing anything I set my mind to. Hence, Made for More was born.
Since power soccer has given me so much, I want more people to experience those same feelings that the sport has given me. Our first goal with this nonprofit is to develop power soccer in the state of Connecticut. And we know just like soccer, we cannot do this alone; we have to work together.
Please consider donating to support our mission, helping those with disabilities realize they truly are #MadeforMore. Your donations will directly help us in the development of Connecticut's first-ever power soccer team.
Our sport is particularly expensive as we use adapted equipment to help every athlete play on a level playing field. The specialized "strikeforce" wheelchairs power soccer athletes use have a starting cost of $10,000, as well as regular tournament fees and traveling costs. We sincerely appreciate any donations; without the help from our community, none of this would be possible.
