Hi everyone, this GoFundMe is made for my dad, Ben Horne. For those of you who know our family, you know our dad has gone through a LOT in the past couple years. Between multiple heart attacks, multiple heart surgeries, the loss of his son, my brother, and now he’s been hit again.
What started as stomach pain quickly snowballed into him needing another procedure done involving a stint replacement. While removing/replacing said stint, the doctor noticed a few lesions on dad’s liver and bile duct. I will be completely transparent in the fact that I do not know all the medical terms. Thank God this doctor paid close attention and noticed them. He had a chance to swab them while in there already so he swabbed one of the lesions and sent it off. It came back benign However, our doctor thankfully likes to be thorough and admitted to my mother he still wasn’t quite satisfied. He wanted the other lesions swabbed to be positive.
Unfortunately during the second stint removal(because my dad just can’t catch a break) they found the cause of his recent illness(blood pressure had kept dropping, he had a fever and they knew he had an infection but could not pin it down) he had developed an infection near the stint which prevented the second swab from being done immediately due to pus and leakage from said infection. Lo and behold, another opportunity for the second swab came around after the infection cleared up, however, it was not good news this go around.
My dad’s biggest fear has always been to die from cancer. He has admitted many times that any other method was preferable. We’ve had terminally sick family members. We know how it goes. After surviving major heart attacks, having to give up working, managing and learning to live life in a world without his son, and now he’s got more to power through.
The doctor was very upfront with us. It’s aggressive and it’s a rare form of cancer that originated from his bile duct and has moved onto his liver. In the past two weeks alone, my mom, sisters and I have taken turns driving him hours out of town for appointments and helping out paying for gas when one or the other takes him.
I say all of this to let you know it’s been a lot. I’ve done one of these before back when he had his first major heart attacks and had not yet been covered for medical expenses. We thought we were going to lose him then, and blessedly he made it through but has had to deal with continued health problems and now cancer has been added to it.
Earlier this year, between my mom and sister, they managed to get a tiny home build started. The home he’s currently in is not fit to continue living in, in his condition. The inside of the new tiny home needs to be completely finished and funds are running out. We had planned to take it slow and get a little done at a time as we didnt feel a need to rush and thought it would be easier financially to do so. That being said, things changed when we realized dad’s health wasn’t really improving and then got the first call with the results about his cancer. Now we’re all frazzled and trying to get this place finished as soon as possible. As much as it pains me to even type this, we want to move our dad into the new home before he gets too sick to enjoy it. We don’t know how many good months he has left. But we don’t want to risk postponing.
Anything you can gift to the funds is HIGHLY appreciated. We’re stressed, financially and emotionally. If you can’t, please don’t feel bad about it, we definitely understand. All I ask is, if you can’t donate, please share so that others who can might see it♥️
