I met Peter and Abena, two incredible emerging Ghanaian artists, during my last residency in Accra in January 2025. As I was researching archives and photography, we spent our days exploring the city together, sharing knowledge, growing a friendship, and dreaming about future collaborations.
I’m returning to Accra in early 2026, and we’ve planned to travel across the country to continue learning from one another and to create new work together. But right now, both of them are facing some barriers that are blocking their ability to keep producing art.
In West Africa, the import of tech and creative tools is extremely expensive and often times can become inaccessible.
The two artistes are currently in need of :
1 portable computer
1 digital camera
I’m planning to get both of the items refurbished and in excellent condition. I’ll be leaving for west Africa in December and have plan to meet with them around February 2026.
This would solve a lot of productivity issues as its puts a lot of constraints on them to find access to this items on the regular and is blocking one of them with their exhibition planning and admin work and the other with their work production at the moment.
These two items would immediately unlock their workflow.
Right now:
One of them is stalled in planning an exhibition because they don’t have reliable access to a computer.
The other cannot produce new photographic work due to lack of equipment.
Both artists are actively collaborating with national cultural institutions, as well as art organizations in Europe and North America. They have talent, vision, and opportunities—but they need the tools that would let them take the next step.
Your contribution will directly support their creative independence, help sustain their careers, and allow us to build something meaningful all around!
And because we’ll be documenting our journey and collaborations, you’ll be able to see the impact of your support in real time on social media.
Thank you for helping remove material barriers for two remarkable artists :) All the best!
