Our family is facing a series of heartbreaking challenges, and we need your help. My partner, Adriana, immigrated to the United States from Peru 21 years ago with her mom. Due to immigration laws at that time, only one child could join them, leaving her oldest sister, Johanna, behind in Peru. Over the years, the separation has been a source of pain for everyone. After 10 long years and still unable to come to the U.S., Johanna wasn’t so alone anymore—she married the love of her life, Alex. A year or so later, they welcomed their daughter, Almudena, into the world.
Earlier this week, tragedy struck when Alex passed away unexpectedly. Alex was not only the rock and breadwinner of the family but also a dedicated, active member of his community. He was deeply involved with Almudena’s life, cherishing every moment with his daughter, and his warm, caring nature extended well beyond his family. Known for forging friendships with everyone he met and earning the trust of his neighbors, Alex made his community a better place. He always advocated for education and cared deeply for students, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Now, Johanna faces an urgent financial challenge: she is unable to cover the tuition for Almudena, who is about to start 5th grade at Institución Educativa Coronel José Joaquín Inclán near Lima, Peru. The tuition fee is 4400 soles (approximately $1200). Every contribution will go directly to covering tuition and helping with food and other basic necessities during this incredibly difficult time.
We know sharing personal details is never easy, but opening up about our story is essential for others to understand the urgency and depth of our need.
Please consider donating—anything helps at this point. Even if you cannot contribute financially, sharing this campaign with friends and family who may be empathetic and willing to help makes a world of difference. Thank you for standing with us during this unimaginable time.
