Help me fund my surgeries!

In late June 2023, I found out that I had cancer when a tumor burst through my intestines like the Kool-Aid Man. You can read the full story here. I went through sepsis in the hospital, and after a very uncertain week, I began to make a recovery. I was eventually released from the hospital with an ileostomy and the knowledge that I would not be a good candidate for an ostomy reversal due to the damage that the sepsis had caused.

Cut to 2025! At a routine appointment in March, my oncologist suggested that I revisit the idea of reconnecting my intestines, and I eagerly accepted. In April, my colorectal surgeon agreed that I could be a candidate for this surgery!

My surgeon also suggested that I receive a hysterectomy. After my 2023 cancer experiences, I was diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome, a genetic condition that makes one much more likely to develop cancer. With Lynch Syndrome, I would have a 25% chance of developing uterine cancer in my lifetime. With those odds, I readily agreed to having the hysterectomy at the same time as my colon surgery.

On June 24, 2025 - almost exactly two years after I walked into the ER with "food poisoning" - I received my surgeries. I went on to spend eight days in the hospital. I am currently living with my parents for this first stage of recovery. If all continues to go well, I hope to be back in my home by August and be able to resume work in September.

I am seeking support to help cover the costs of surgery, hospital stay, and ongoing medical appointments. At my medical team's advice, I will also be taking a total of 12 weeks off of work. Luckily, I do qualify for Washington State Paid Family Leave, so I am not at risk of losing my apartment, but I will only be receiving a percentage of my typical paycheck, so I will need to be as frugal as possible during that time.
