Help Alison Beat Cancer

My name is Shan, and I have created this fundraiser for my dearest and closest friend, Alison Humphreys, who is going through a medical crisis that came out of nowhere and has completely upended her life.

On June 27th, Alison had what she thought was severe food poisoning – severe enough to visit the ER for fluids and medication. She was sent home, but her symptoms quickly returned, and she was back in the ER the next day.

A routine CT scan showed that this was much, much more than simple food poisoning.

You can imagine the shock and fear when the doctors told her unexpectedly horrible news - at 33 years old, Alison had colon cancer.

She needed emergency surgery to remove a tumor, along with a large portion of her colon. She would wake up with a colostomy bag, a stoma, and a drastically different life.

During surgery, the doctors discovered a perforation that led to infection, septic shock, and scary days in the ICU.

Alison has faced this crisis and 3 weeks in the hospital with grace and strength, but she has months of challenges ahead.

As treatment continues, Alison will move into her parents’ home for the next six to twelve weeks, recuperating with their help.

Alison must weather weeks and months away from her apartment, her pets, her job, and her life as she knows it.

If recovery goes well, Alison faces another major surgery in just six months, to reattach her colon and reverse the colostomy.

Alison is a truly kind and caring person with a generous spirit and a rapier quick wit. She has spent her career helping to care for babies and families who most need support. She is a wonderful friend and a bright light in all our lives.

As you can imagine, the costs for multiple ER visits, diagnostic tests, surgeries, and weeks in the hospital are huge, even with insurance.

So, on her behalf, we are asking for help to combat this medical debt.
