Save our Glebe Fields for our Community.

The Saving Sully and Lavernock Group have submitted an Application to Register the Glebe Fields in Sully as a Village Green to the Commons Registration Authority of the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

The Glebe Fields are placed "in trust" with the Local Authority to raise funds for charitable purposes for the benefit of the community.

A successful application will not change the ownership or use of the Glebe Fields, or stop the Local Authority from raising charitable funds.

Although a successful Application will protect and maintain the Glebe Fields for the Community of Sully, giving residents continued ‘unrestrained” use of the Glebe Fields for various leisure activities and pastimes, which have taken place on the Glebe Fields since it was presented to Sully Village in the 11th Century.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council, who are the registered owners of the land, are reviewing its Local Development Plan and would like to place a development on the Glebe Fields which would include an access road to a proposed permanent Gypsy/Traveller Camp, have objected to the Application.

The Application will now go before an Independent Public Enquiry.

The legal costs so far in the preparation of the application have been nearly £7,000, with estimated costs of a Barrister to represent the Group at the Public Enquiry being estimated at between £15,000 to £20,000.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council will be financing their legal costs from the charity funds, to benefit themselves

Fund raising has been limited due to the Covid Pandemic over the past two years and therefore the Groups funds are very limited at present and one of the reasons for setting up this page.
