Our 64-year-old father, José Sánchez Garcia, was detained on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025. ICE raided the Playa Vista Home Depot at about 9:45 am, he was profiled and was kidnapped while he was driving near the Home Depot. ICE cut him off on the road, forcing him to pull into the nearby Kaiser Permanente parking lot, where they forced him out of his truck and on to the ground and arrested him. He left behind his beloved dog, Bon Bon. She was very confused and panicked about what had happened. He is now being detained at Adelanto ICE Processing Center.
My dad has been in the United States for 36 years, and is the proud father of four U.S. citizens. He is a kind-hearted person, who takes pride in his work ethic and tries to provide for our family everyday when he goes to work. He is a beloved member of the Playa Vista Home Depot community, where he has been working for over 20 years. Everyone knows him because he was always ready to lend a helping hand in any way he possibly could. Alongside him was beloved companion Bon Bon. They are never apart and are like an old couple as those who know my Dad would say.
He helped people build things & haul things away and often found meaning in the items that people left behind. He decorated his truck with these small toy boats and soldiers. He would always make the most of everything even if it was nothing to others.
Unfortunately, our family has been suffering from anxiety, panic, and stress since his arrest . My mom, my siblings, and I just really want to have our father back home.
In 2023, our Dad was a victim of a crime–he was racially profiled and horribly attacked by a Home Depot security guard. As he was exiting the Home Depot bathroom, the security guard accused him of shoplifting. The guard beat him, pepper sprayed him, and hit him with his gun. Because of this, he is in the process of getting a U visa, which ICE disregarded and detained him, anyway. Our father is a hard working and loving man, who does not deserve to be treated like a criminal. Your support and donation will fund our legal fight for his release. We have been so grateful to the West Los Respuesta Rápida and DSA for their support. Please help us bring our father home.
