FOXYCUT IS MOVING TO GEORGETOWN!
Here’s the short story:
Foxycut Salon got a $15K grant for new furniture.
We need a 5-year lease to activate the grant.
The landlord just let us know that his restaurant is expanding into our location early next year.
An amazing location in Georgetown popped up!
The space is already built out as a salon: bigger, better, plus a bar with a tap built in.
It was made for Foxycut community events and gallery openings.
But our team was not expecting a move to happen this soon.
We made the move, and got the grant.
We had volunteers to make it happen.
But things are still tight.
We want to:
Cover lost wages.
Move A. O. Hamer's iconic art wall mural carefully and professionally.
Purchase all the furniture that the grant cannot cover.
Commission new street signage.
Create promotional material.
Help us cover these expenses so we can keep our mission alive and well.
Why help us?
Foxycut started with 3 people in 2009 and has grown to a team of 13 dedicated stylists. The salon has become a trusted, welcoming space for people who often don’t see themselves reflected in traditional salon environments. We specialize in curly hair, blowouts, relaxers, extensions, and fantasy colors on African American and Asian hair. Of course, everyone is welcome.
Foxycut Salon gives back through creative, inclusive collaborations. This year, our space has facilitated free healing classes, such as sound baths, yoga, and meditation. Our team donated free haircuts to YouthCare's Orion Center and Alimentando al Pueblo. We offer a discounted/sliding scale for our clients in need. Foxycut sponsored a Filipino Palengke Market festival and hosted the after-party. Our stylists hosted free haircut and color classes for the community. We produced a fundraiser for Super Familia to support immigrant families. Foxycut's most recent event was “Feria de la Flores,” a pop-up vendor market with singers, a build-your-own flower bouquet bar, live art portraits, and tattoo artists giving flower tattoos. All in this year alone! Last year, we produced fundraisers, ongoing art openings, and dynamic events with the intimacy of an NPR Tiny Desk concert and a regional and national BIPOC LGBTQ+ focus, featuring dancers, poetry, musicians, drag queens, and DJs.
The Foxycut team is committed to expanding our salon offerings, art exhibitions, and community-building efforts in our new Georgetown location. We plan to increase access to our free and sliding-scale services, host more educational workshops and creative events, and deepen our partnerships with local organizations and our new neighbors. Our vision is to remain a regional and neighborhood cultural anchor, offering skill-building, creative expression, and community care as tools of survival, celebration, and solidarity.
Any extra funds will go straight into free classes, paying artists, and community programs.
Thank you!!
