As many of us are, I am watching the news and listening to the reports of the awful things that are happening in Ukraine and feeling helpless. I am sad for the people who must leave their homes with only what they can carry with them on a train or a bus to bring their families to safety, not knowing when or if they will return. My heart aches for the women and children who are being separated from their husbands, fathers, sons, and brothers who are staying behind to fight for their country.

I recently learned that about half of the refugees leaving Ukraine are going to Poland, my parents' home country which I've visited multiple times and where most of my aunts, uncles and cousins still live. Many refugees are heading for Przemysl, a beautiful city in southeastern Poland. It is the first major city west of the busiest crossing point, Modyka, along the Polish-Ukranian border. My husband and I had the opportunity to visit Przemysl years ago when my first cousin was ordained as a priest there.

My cousin is now back in a parish in Przemysl and his city is preparing to receive the onslaught of refugees. I asked him what I can do to help, and he recommended donating to the city of Przemysl.

This fundraiser will gather donations for the city of Przemysl so volunteers on the ground can help provide the necessities refugees need when arriving there. According to the city secretary, the items in highest demand right now are sheets, towels, and personal items, in addition to food and water. Your donation will go toward these and other items for refugees. Any amount, no matter how small, will make an impact. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
