Adam and Amberly welcomed their second child on November 27, a baby boy named Holton Cardamone, weighing 8lbs 3oz. What they did not expect were the health problems their new bundle of joy would have. Holton struggled with breathing right after being born and needed to be intubated and rushed to the NICU where they discovered he has a Congential Diaphragmatic Hernia. His intestines were growing into his chest due to a defect in his diaphragm, compressing on his heart and lungs, making it impossible for the little guy to get enough oxygen. He was rushed to Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit where they performed emergent surgery that took 5 hours long. He is now in the NICU, sedated, intubated with a breathing tube, and on a ventilator. Although stable, he has a long road to recovery. The doctors don’t think he will be going home for a few months.
Adam and Amberly also have a 3 year old son, who is being cared for by family members. Adam and Amberly are exhausted from the stress of everything, sleeping at a hospital, concern for their new son, and the fact that they aren’t able to see their 3 year old as often as they would like. Their life has been turned upside down. The last thing they should worry about are finances. With Holton being in the hospital for the next few months, Adam has taken FMLA and Amberly is unable to return to work as often as she would like after she heals. They want, and need, to be there for both of their sons during this time.
Their friends have decided to start a fundraiser for The Cardamone’s to help with hospital expenses and also to supplement any lost income. Amberly and Adam are amazing friends who are the type of people that would drop everything to be there for those they love. Let’s do our best to be there for them now. It’s the season of giving, and this family needs our help!
