Mi chiamo Irma e vivo in Italia. Ho aperto questa raccolta fondi per dare sostegno a Seraj Al-Najjar, una giovane donna di ventitrè anni che vive a Gaza, insieme al marito e al loro figlio Awed, nato appena una settimana prima dell'attacco israeliano a Gaza e dell'inizio del genocidio.

Seraj è sfollata ad Al Mawasi, una località sulla costa a sud della Striscia, dove risiedono centinaia di migliaia di persone in tende allestite sulla sabbia.

Seraj ha perso alcuni dei suoi parenti più prossimi, suo padre e i suoi unici fratello e sorella: è stata costretta a recuperare i loro resti sotto le macerie di quella che un tempo era la loro casa (foto).

Il piccolo Awed ha sofferto di allergie, malnutrizione e di una meningite (foto), cosa che ha causato ansia, preoccupazione e sofferenza in Seraj. Anche suo marito è stato ferito mentre cercava aiuti per la famiglia (foto).

Al momento Seraj vive in una tenda semi aperta (foto) assolutamente inadatta ad affrontare l'inverno: la speranza con la tregua di poter tornare nei pressi della sua vecchia casa per recuperare vestiti e coperte tra le macerie si è infranta subito: la zona è ancora sotto controllo dell'esercito di occupazione ed è pericoloso avvicinarsi.

Ogni sostegno in questo momento può fare davvero la differenza per questa famiglia, ciò che avviene a Gaza non dovrebbe esistere in un mondo davvero umano, ognuna e ognuno di noi può restituire solidarietà attraverso un aiuto concreto.

Ma gli aiuti arrivano davvero? Sì. Sono in contatto diretto e quotidiano con Seraj e posso farle avere il vostro contributo direttamente, tramite l'account PayPal di un'agenzia di cambio in loco: uno dei pochi modi di inviare denaro a Gaza.

L'economia di guerra rende estremamente difficile mantenersi, non solo perché dopo due anni dall'inizio dell'invasione israeliana le famiglie non più risorse né lavoro, ma per via del rincaro estremo delle merci e degli alti tassi di cambio per convertire gli importi virtuali in contanti, cosa indispensabile per l'acquisto, per esempio, dei generi alimentari. I contanti in circolazione sono infatti pochissimi e in mano ad agenti di cambio che chiedo anche fino al 50% di commissioni.

Seraj si presenta

Mi chiamo Siraj Al-Najjar e sono una cittadina di Gaza. Ho perso 25 membri della mia amata famiglia, tra cui mio padre, il mio unico fratello, la mia unica sorella. Ho perso anche la possibilità di laurearmi, a causa delle tasse non pagate. Sono rimasta sola con mio figlio. Mio marito è disoccupato e non ho alcun reddito.

Mio figlio ha sofferto molto durante il periodo di carestia e attualmente soffre per la mancanza di giocattoli adeguati alla sua età e alla sua intelligenza. Sto cercando il più possibile di provvedere a lui, ma non ci riesco.

La nostra tenda non è adatta per vivere in inverno. Subiamo infiltrazioni d'acqua che raggiunge i materassi dove dormiamo. Non ho vestiti invernali o pesanti per me o per mio figlio per proteggerlo dal freddo. Abbiamo un appuntamento con l'inverno. Il vostro sostegno mi aiuterebbe a comprare vestiti invernali.

My name is Irma and I live in Italy. I started this fundraiser to support Seraj, a young woman who lives in Gaza with her husband and their son Awed, who was born just a week before the Israeli attack on Gaza and the start of the genocide.

Seraj has been displaced to Al Mawasi, a coastal area in south of the Strip, where hundreds of thousands of people live in tents pitched on the sand.

Seraj lost some of her closest relatives, her father and her only brother and sister: she was forced to recover their remains from under the rubble of what was once their home (photo).

Little Awed suffered from allergies, malnutrition, and meningitis (photo), which caused Seraj anxiety, worry, and suffering. Her husband was also injured while seeking help for the family (photo).

Seraj currently lives in a semi-open tent (photo) that is completely unsuitable for winter: her hope that the truce would allow her to return to her old home to recover clothes and blankets from the rubble was immediately dashed: the area is still under the control of the occupying army and it is dangerous to approach.

Any support at this time can really make a difference for this family. What is happening in Gaza should not exist in a truly humane world, and each and every one of us can show solidarity through concrete help.

But does the aid actually arrive? Yes. I am in direct, daily contact with Seraj and can send her your contribution directly through the PayPal account of a local exchange agency: one of the few ways to send money to Gaza.

The war economy makes it extremely difficult to support oneself, not only because two years after the start of the Israeli invasion, families no longer have resources or work, but also because of the extreme rise in the cost of goods and the high exchange rates for converting virtual amounts into cash, which is essential for purchasing food, for example. There is very little cash in circulation, and what there is is in the hands of exchange agents who charge commissions of up to 50%.

Seraj introduces herself

My name is Siraj Al-Najjar and I am a citizen of Gaza. I lost 25 members of my beloved family, including my father, my only brother, and my only sister. I also lost the opportunity to graduate from university because I couldn't pay the fees. I am left alone with my son. My husband is unemployed and I have no income.

My son suffered greatly during the famine and currently suffers from a lack of toys suitable for his age and intelligence. I am trying as much as possible to provide for him, but I am unable to do so.

Our tent is not suitable for living in during the winter. Water leaks in and reaches the mattresses where we sleep. I don't have any winter or heavy clothes for myself or my son to protect him from the cold. Winter is coming. Your support would help me buy winter clothes.
