Help for Rohingya Refugees
I started fundraising for the Cox Bazaar refugee camp in Ramadan because a university friend gave me the number of a Rohingya man who used to be a refugee himself but has recently gained Bangladeshi citizenship. I have been sending him money and he has used that to arrange approx 170 food packs for widows, orphans and Imams in camp 6. He has also arranged for the construction of 5 water tubewells in camp 13.
FYI- there are a total of 36 camps within Cox Bazaar, so our impact while meaningful, is very very minimal!
Having a personal contact within the camp has been great because I can know where, when and how our donations are being used. With everyone’s generous support, I am therefore planning to continue fundraising for the Rohingya Refugees, inshAllah. Accordingly, I asked Shaker, my contact in the camp, to discuss and send me a list of their most urgent needs. In response, he has requested support in the following areas:
1- Clean water sources
2- Food packs
3- Masjid & Madrassa roof repairs (roofs are mostly made from plastic sheets with gaps/holes so water leaks in. Repairs requested urgently, before the coming rain season!)
4- Madrassa orphans welfare (clothes, books, teacher salaries etc)
5- Medical fees (e.g. a man needs treatment for a 3 year old military gunfire injury)
I know Ramzan is over and most of us have given our Sadaf/zakat for the year. However, I would urge and request everyone to please, please dig deep into your wallets and donate whatever you can! There is SO much needed at the camp that it feels overwhelming at times... a few people alone can’t make a difference- we all need to come together and take care of the Rohingya as a global community!
So please be generous and donate however much is possible for you! I would request that all donors please post a comment (even if anonymously) stating how much you donated and what you would like to donate for (eg food/water/roof repairs etc). This will help me in allocating all donations to the right place!
Thank you, JazakAllah. May Allah grant us all with abundance in Rizq so we can give generously, accept all our donations and may Allah work miracles to end the suffering of the Rohingya.
