Help for Miz

Hello friends, family, and kind strangers. I'm starting this GoFundMe to help support my Grandmother (Karen, Mom, or Miz) who has recently been the victim of a very sophisticated and manipulative telephone fraud scheme.

Miz needs no introduction in her small hometown, she has been involved in countless community events, always volunteering what little extra time she has to help a worthy cause. Miz is someone who gives with absolutely zero thought of recognition or reward, she does it because she CARES about the community and the people in it. We are hoping that some of that care and love can come back to her by donating to this request.

The telephone scam mentioned plays on your emotions and through convincing role play, the caller makes you believe that it is your injured child on the line or that someone you love has injured someone else and requires your support. They flood the conversation with minute details designed to cloud your judgment. Your mind is busy trying to process the situation and find a way to alleviate the pain and suffering of your son, daughter, or grandchild. Even the most rational can be convinced to act in the moment. If you receive a phone call like this, remember to take a step back. Remain calm. Don’t give them any names of your family members. You may have heard of or even received calls like this before. The people who make these calls have no care for the physical or emotional state of the person they are hurting. Within 45 minutes they had convinced Miz to send a large sum of money to help a family member in distress, even getting a female accomplice to impersonate her daughter. An hour or so after the emotional trauma of the event had subsided the bank and police were contacted. They were able to freeze a portion of the funds, however, the majority was already gone. We are aiming to replace the funds that were stolen and to show Miz the same kind of love and support that she has given tirelessly her entire life.
