NSA Families and Friends,
Mark Evans here - father to 7th graders Haley and Ryan Evans
It recently came to my attention that our beloved Legarza provided PE teachers Cory and Caely have both been furloughed as of March 25th because of the Covid-19 shutdowns. With the goal of helping them bridge the financial gap through all this craziness, I'm asking and hoping that we can come together as a community (like we always do! ) and support them.
Here are excerpts from an email exchange with Cory and Caely.
Cory Bouskos - I have been teaching sports to kids for over 15 years, starting at the YMCA on Hudson Street in RWC. I started working at NSA at the beginning of this school year and I am so happy to be a part of such an amazing school. The staff, the families and most importantly the kids are so nice and thoughtful. I look forward to teaching there for many years to follow.
My wife Katherine (a former NSA student) and I met in 2012 and got married in 2017. We finally settled down and decided we were ready to start the next chapter in our lives. We definitely never imagined this would happen as we both had envisioned things going perfect for our baby boy.
With the sudden epidemic, I have been put on furlough. Trying my best to make money from home, however being a coach makes it harder than most to find a job. We had to cancel our baby shower and I will be the only visitor allowed at the hospital. It’s hard to wrap our heads around this and our main concern is to keep healthy so our son can come into this world happy and healthy.
Caely Lavino - I graduated from Gonzaga University last May with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Sociology. I am in my first year as a Legarza PE teacher and started working at North Star in November. I have taken pride getting to know each of the students individually and loved introducing them to fun ways to exercise. Each of my students have brought joy and smiles to my face everyday & I truly miss being there.
This experience has been so enriching and now I am currently in the application process to obtain my teaching credential because of my positive experience as a teacher at North Star.
I am overwhelmed with the amount of generosity and kindness that I have felt from the North Star community during these difficult times.
Thank you all again for your generosity and kindness. I know that Cory and Caely treasure the NSA community that they have been adopted into and would appreciate any kindness you could send their way.
