My name is Rebecca, and I’m Chase's grandmother. Chase has just turned 5. Chase was recently hospitalised after a severe injury to his eye. Chase fell over while carrying a pencil, which penetrated his optic nerve and brain. He was airlifted from Bendigo to the Royal Children’s Hospital. The pencil was removed successfully by a fantastic team of neurosurgeons and eye surgeons, but Chase has probably lost most, if not all, of the sight in his left eye. He was intubated for three days in ICU and spent a week in the RCH. Chase has Autism and ADHD and is the funniest, cheekiest, and the most intelligent little boy who loves Spiderman, transformers, and climbing trees.

Chase was also born with hip dysplasia and spent 12 months of his life in a brace for 23 hours a day. Unfortunately, this didn’t cure his hip dysplasia as his Drs had hoped, and last year he had surgery at the RCH, where his femur was broken and repositioned in his hip. He still needs surgery to remove the plates and screws at some stage soon and more surgery on his eye in the future.

A week before his eye injury, Chase's mum had an unexplained seizure while driving and wrote off her car. Thankfully, his mum and Chase were uninjured, but his mum is now not allowed to drive until she is given the all-clear from specialists. Chase's mum is currently unable to work due to her health issues, and she is also waiting on surgery. She is a fantastic mum doing her best for Chase with all the obstacles in her way.

I am hoping to raise enough money to put towards a secondhand car for Chase's mum for when she can drive again and help her with bills, rent, and other household items to help her, or even just a weekend away for them both. She has many visits to specialists in Melbourne and will need a car as she lives in Central Victoria. I am currently helping her with everything I can and would love to be able to reduce some of the enormous pressure we are all under. I am also trying to raise the bond and rent in advance for myself as I need to move into a new rental property and also new brakes for my car.

All money raised will go directly to things that will help us give Chase the best life we can. A safe car, secure housing, petrol for appointments in Melbourne for his medical treatments and less financial stress on his mum and me.
