Catherine Omanyo is a political activist and humanitarian located in Busia County, Kenya. She agitates for reforms, leadership change, and the condemnation of corruption and nepotism in political rallies, social media, and door to door campaigns. Her focuses are women’s rights, education, youth empowerment, community development, and job creation.
The eldest of ten, she and her entire family were left homeless in their village after her father died; her mother took a stand and refused to be “inherited” and they had to rebuild an entire life.
She fought to stay in school despite the chaos and, after receiving a scholarship to Nairobi University, asked tailors for their throwaway scraps of fabric so she could make herself some clothes. She sewed stylish Avant grade dresses that became all the rage and began a school with the money she made to give all children opportunities to learn (one must usually pay for school in Kenya.)
Besides building her visionary school, she has created economic freedom for widows by creating a program to foster their entrepreneurship in micro enterprises.
Funds will be sent to Catherine's American husband, Daron Kendrick.
Money donated to the campaign will go to:
-Payment for transportation to different rural areas
-Rental fees for meeting spaces where Catherine can give classes and give talks about different issues facing the area
-Educational materials to distribute info about women's rights and AIDS
-Catherine and Daron's jigger flea removal aid work. Catherine and Daron go from place to place removing jigger fleas from people and educating them about how to protect themselves from the fleas. Money will go to medical supplies like gloves and medicine, and educational materials related to the fleas.
-Prepaid credits for phone calls
-Branding materials to agitate for reform in political leadership unrelated to Catherine's political run.
-Radio and tv ads about political reform, women's rights, and general discussions about the conditions in the area
Funds will not be used to support Catherine's campaign run for women's representative.
