Help my Grandma get back in her home! ❤️
Donation protected

The codes department said that the house did not meet safety standards due to overcrowding, so Betty and I have been “couch hopping” to have a place to stay for the past couple weeks. As you can imagine, this has been a lot for her to take in, but she is holding up. I looked into every possible type of housing arrangement for her, but what she wants is to live her remaining years in her home of 28 years with her cat, Miss Kitty. I have a community assistance program ready to be set up to help her with driving, doctors appointments, life alert, etc.
Last week I created a plan to clean out the house. With the help of family, friends, and an amazing church community, we were able to impress the codes inspector so much that he said he would allow her to move back in this week. (approx 300 volunteer hours in 4 days.)
The inspector said the structure of the house is in excellent condition, and the plumbing is all in good shape. That being said, we have come across countless repairs that will need to be done so Betty can live comfortably at home. It’s never too late for a fresh start!
The home is in need of some TLC. We have been doing everything possible to keep costs low. My dad is very handy and has already helped out with installing a new toilet and kitchen faucet. Him and my aunt spent days weeding the yard (including poison ivy) All of our workers so far have been volunteers. We have already put in over $1500 into repairs, supplies, cleaning fees, and appliances. We are in the process of selling items to make money for the house. We are also in contact with agencies who help seniors to do repairs at no/low cost.
We are hoping to recoup some of these fees to go into desperately needed landscaping fees, window repairs/replacements, a refrigerator, 2 telephones, rain gutter repair, washer, drier, toilet, stove, microwave, and downstairs shower, and possibly some also desperately needed deep cleaning fees. There is much more that needs repaired but I’m asking only what’s most necessary for her to be able to enjoy her home. All of the appliances were out of order. It’s a beautiful 2,000 square foot home but we are moving her onto the first floor (even though she still goes up and down the stairs, slowly but surely haha!)
We are also open to accepting used donations for those household items.
I never would have been able to imagine getting this huge job started if it wasn’t for the help and support of my community near and far. We have already received SO much in terms of donations of food, cleaning supplies, volunteer hours, and kind words and thoughts. I believe anything is possible, and we are on our way to accomplishing this task before I need to return home to Las Vegas to continue my teaching job.
I have been continuing to get requests of how people can help; and this is what is needed now.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I send blessings to you all. ❤️ Katie Borowski
