A quick update—and a small ask
Many of you know by now that I’ve welcomed a “surprise” grandson.
Tairyn was born January 27th, and I’ve been caring for him full-time as his mother is in active addiction and didnt even know she was pregnant. We are moving forward with a traditional Inuit adoption through the Nunatsiavut Government, with the full support of both his parents.
He’s healthy, doing well, and truly a bright light in our family.
Since January 29th, I had been with him in the Families in Recovery Program. My daughter was discharged early. We worked towards a stable plan of care and have left the hospital. Now we are home and still in need of financial supports that havent finalized yet.
This shift has been fast. I recently finished my Business Administration program, and my WorkSafeBC benefits ended February 15th. I have job interviews coming up, but in the meantime, finances are tight while I transition into this new role as his caregiver.
Right now, I’m trying to cover a BC Hydro bill and maintain my rent to avoid eviction as I couldn't pay March's rent. If anyone is able to help with a short-term loan, I can repay it at the end of the month when my disability pension comes in...but better yet this fundraiser if met to fruition will be able to cover marchs rent so baby and I arent evicted.
Beyond that, I’m expecting the next couple of months to be a stretch while supports and legal processes are finalized. I do have applications in progress, and some help with baby essentials is already in place, which I’m very grateful for.
If you’re able to contribute, or even just share this, it would mean a lot.
It takes a community—and I appreciate mine more than ever right now.
Thank you,
Kaummajuk (Holly)
