For the past thirty-some years Cheryl Kohler-Crowe, and her now-deceased partner, have fostered, then adopted, many moderately to profoundly challenged children who have become adults. This unique and loving family has lived in a large home that accommodates the “children’s" special physical needs. Like most families, they ate meals together in their dining room, had chores appropriate to their abilities, celebrated birthdays and holidays, laughed, and sometimes argued. The more able “kids” worked at a sheltered workshop…until March 7th, when their home burned to the ground in the middle of the night! Thankfully all escaped uninjured! The 12 family members and an assistant have lost everything. They are moving from place to place within the community as space for the large family becomes temporarily available. Their home was uninsured because they live in Sonora, CA, “fire country”, where most fire insurance for homes was stopped.
As you can imagine, they need everything; food, clothing, adaptive equipment, medicines, bedding/beds, furniture, kitchen supplies, a permanent home for people with special needs, and PRAYERS!! Friends have set up this Go Fund Me account for them. Please, reach into your pockets and purses to help this extraordinary family, and share this story with others!
