A Community Project by Paul Omboto

Hello everyone,

My name is Paul Omboto, and I’m launching a community initiative called the Alberta Community Food Support Initiative (ACFSI) — a grassroots effort to help needy families, newcomers, and Black immigrant households in Edmonton and Calgary put food on the table.

This mission began with a story that truly touched my heart.

One evening, my young daughter came home from school and told me about her friend in Grade 6, whose family had recently separated. They were facing homelessness and often went without food. Hearing that children her age were going hungry right here in our community broke me.

As immigrants, we know how hard it can be to start over — balancing new beginnings with financial and emotional struggles. That’s when I realized I had to act, not just for that one family, but for many others quietly enduring the same hardship.

Our Mission

To ensure no family in our community goes hungry, by:

✅ Providing free food hampers and basic supplies to low-income families.

✅ Offering mobile food deliveries for those who can’t reach food banks.

✅ Sharing culturally appropriate food for Alberta’s diverse newcomer communities.

✅ Building a strong volunteer network to serve with dignity and love.

Our Goal: $50,000 CAD

This funding will help us launch the project and sustain it through the first few months.

Reliable used delivery van $25,000

Food supplies and essentials $3,500

Storage space and facility rental $3,000

Insurance, fuel & maintenance $2,700

Packaging, outreach, & volunteer support $1,800

Every contribution — big or small — helps a child like my daughter’s friend sleep with a full stomach and a sense of hope.
