Hello, it is Anna and Gracie here. We want to share something deeply close to our hearts and humbly ask for your support.

In Kenya, many children face challenges no child should ever experience. A significant number suffer from chronic under-nutrition, and many are unable to attend school. In some of the poorest communities, only one out of four children can access education. Not because they don’t want to learn, but because survival comes first.

When a child is born into a slum, breaking the cycle of poverty becomes incredibly difficult. And that is where Positive Life Kenya (PLK) steps in.

When Gracie volunteered with PLK in September 2022, she saw this reality up close. On her first day, during outreach in a slum called City Cartoon she met a young girl named Cristina.

Cristina was just a child herself, already out of school, with one child of her own and carrying a newborn. The social workers were trying to understand her situation to offer support, and later we found out that she had been abused by her father, who also abused her mother. With no food at home, Cristina often went to the landfill in search of scraps. At times, she exchanged her own safety for a few coins so she could eat and provide for her family. School was not an option for her — survival was. This is, unfortunately, the reality for many children in Kenya — unthinkable, and no child should ever have to live through this.

Although we cannot change the whole world, we can change Cristina’s world — and the world of the 400+ children PLK supports every day.

PLK runs feeding programs, two schools (Tumaini in Mlolongo and Kiotani in Lukenya), Faraja House for women leaving the sex industry, mentorship for people living with HIV, community health education, and vocational courses in areas including beauty, welding, electrician skills, and agriculture. Their mission is simple but life-changing: create hope together by providing holistic support, family strengthening, gender equality, and sustainable development.

With your help, we hope to raise AUD $35,000 to support two urgent and deeply impactful projects:

Feeding the children and expanding PLK’s agricultural project in Kiotani. PLK’s dream is to grow more of their own produce through their small farm, which already supplies a portion of the school meals. Expanding this project means they can harvest more food, depend less on purchased staples, and reduce yearly costs, making the feeding program more sustainable long-term.

Completing the construction of classrooms at Tumaini School in Mlolongo. Tumaini serves one of the poorest communities Gracie visited, where only one child out of four is able to attend school due to lack of resources. Several classrooms are currently unfinished, limiting the number of students they can welcome. By completing them, PLK will be able to welcome more children, provide daily meals, and offer a safe place to learn, grow, and simply be children.
