Help My Family

Hello everyone, my name is Fatma Almughrabi. I’m a 16-year-old foreign exchange student from Gaza, Palestine, living in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I am reaching out to share a personal matter, as my family is in great need. My family is made up of me, my lovely brother (Abdullah), my father (Muhammad Almughrabi), and my mother (Olena Almughrabi), who were able to evacuate Gaza and are now living in Egypt.

I want to help my family in Egypt; they cannot work now. My parents used up most of their money evacuating Gaza and I would like to help replenish the money they spent to do so. They will need finances for daily living, including clothes (including winter clothes as the weather is getting cooler), food, and rent. My parents are unable to work at the moment. It cost my parents and brother $15,000 to get to Egypt.

With the help of my host parents, Chris and Lara Lahr, I am collecting these funds and will be able to wire the money to my father's bank account in Egypt.

Since the conflict started, I have lost several people I care about. My parents had to evacuate several times since October 7 as my house was bombed, as well as my school, which was one of the best schools in my country that had only gifted students in it. I left the home I love at the beginning of September, and in such a short amount of time, much of my life I’ve known is gone, and all that remains are my memories. Though my parents were able to make it to Egypt, they told me that they didn’t know anything about the well-being of my grandma, my uncles, and their families, who are still living in Northern Gaza. This is a hard reality for my family. We were crying every day, not knowing if they were alive. And just recently, we found out that they were alive! Before my parents left for Egypt, they stayed with my cousin (and twenty others) living in south Gaza. They were buying food for everyone there as the other people who stayed there didn’t have money at all; thankfully, my parents evacuated just recently, and they are staying with friends in Egypt.
