My name is Farida Mohammadi and I served alongside the United States Special Operations as a member of the Afghan Female Tactical Platoon (FTP) during the Global War on Terror. The FTPs worked hand-in-hand with the U.S. Special Forces to conduct hundreds of night raids to counter Taliban threats. As a FTP, my role was to gather actionable intelligence from women and children while also searching them for weapons that could be used to harm American and Afghan soldiers. In 2021, I was evacuated by United States forces during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan to escape Taliban reprisals. My family was able to flee temporarily to Pakistan, however, now they face deportation as the Pakistani government is exiling all Afghan refugees. If my family is forced to return to Afghanistan, the Taliban will inevitably hunt them down with the knowledge that I supported the United States during the war.
My goal is to raise a total of $20,000 for visas for my four family members to relocate to Malaysia and out of harm’s way. I feel helpless as my father, mother, brother, and husband’s fate is in limbo, with their risk for deportation from Pakistan growing more probable with each passing day. Despite graduating from medical school in Afghanistan, my husband is unable to secure work in Pakistan because of the visa limitations. I would be grateful for any assistance in securing their safety and futures with hopes that one day, I will be reunited with those I love the most.
