Last week, my coworker, Fatuma, and her family escaped a devastating house fire and but lost everything at 1014 Baxter St, GR 40503. Thankfully, everyone is safe and accounted for, but they are now facing the overwhelming reality of rebuilding their lives from nothing.

Fatuma comes from a very large family, and she and her 12 siblings and parents have had to be separated and placed with relatives while they figure out what comes next. This is an incredibly difficult and uncertain time for all of them.

Their family has already been carrying a heavy burden. Fatuma’s father was in an accident in August and has been unable to work since then. Since that time, Fatuma and her older brother have been the primary financial support for the entire family.

They now need help with immediate essentials such as clothing, food, hygiene items, school supplies, transportation, temporary housing needs, and anything else required as they begin to recover from this loss.
