Help family of 6-Son diagnosed with Rare Leukemia

Donación protegida
My very good friend April and her family of 6 have been put into a tough spot and they need our help! Back in March, Ryan, their now 17yr old son, was not feeling well, in excruciating pain in his hip and leg, and was rushed to the hospital in Grants Pass, Oregon. With no progress in finding out what was wrong with him there, he was transferred to RVMC in Medford, Oregon.  Still without clear answers, the doctors in Medford were in touch with doctors at Doernbecher's in Portland, Oregon.  It was decided that Ryan needed to get to Doernbecher's immediately, and Ryan and April were flown by Mercy Flight to Portland.  After even more tests, including a lumbar puncture and bone-marrow biopsy, it was determined that Ryan has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and needed to start chemotherapy immediately.  Shortly thereafter, as more test results came in over the following weeks, his Doctor in Portland amended his diagnosis by finding that Ryan has a very rare sub-type of ALL known as "Philadelphia positive" or Ph+.  It is so rare that there are only about 700 people in the whole world who have it.

For those of you not aware of what Leukemia treatment is like , it is on average about 2-3 years of chemotherapy treatment in different phases.  The actual duration depends on how the patient handles the treatment, if there are any relapses, and if there are any "holds" or pauses in treatment when the patient needs to recover from the chemotherapy destroyins his/her body.  For Ryan and those with his rare sub-type diagnosis, the treatment is even more intense, likely longer, and the prognosis more scary.  Over the course of this time, their family is basically along for the ride.  You go wherever treatment needs you to go.  You do whatever you need to do with your family so that your child can get the treatment he needs.  This has meant many, many hotel stays, take-out meals, Doordash, medical bills, gas and auto maintenance, a whopping MercyFlight bill that is not covered by insurance, and countless other expenses that add up week after week, month after month.  They are doing all of this while still trying to maintain a functional family, home-schooling their daughters, and with dad doing his best to be there for them all while maintaining his job as mom spends many, many overnights with Ryan in the hospital but still keeping on top of things at home.

Please take a moment to help in any way you can. Pray, send love, share or donate.  This is going to be a long battle for Ryan, for mom and dad, and for their whole family.  Thank you in advance!❤️❤️
