Hi,
My name is Kerry and my son is Kamoy (Shaba). We are from Jamaica but have lived in Greensboro, NC, United States for 10 years.
Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica as a Category 5 storm on Tuesday, Oct 28, 2025. It left behind severe destruction across many communities in Western Jamaica. The community of Summer Hill, Montego Bay, where we grew up, is in total devastation. The roofs of houses, schools and churches were blown off, and the roads completely separated. My own sister's house was swept away. She and many other families in their area suffered significant damage, and access to basic needs like food, clean water, electricity, clothing, and a place to sleep has become incredibly difficult.
Many friends and colleagues have reached out to ask how our family is and how they can help, and for that, we are deeply grateful. After much consideration, we have decided that the most effective and immediate way to help our community is through financial support. These funds will be used to purchase food, basic household supplies, and essential materials locally to help families begin the process of rebuilding their homes and restoring stability.
Every contribution, no matter the size, is appreciated and will go directly toward helping my family and their community recover from this devastating storm. Your kindness and compassion will have a direct impact, bringing hope, relief, and strength to those working hard to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.
