Hi friends and family! I am helping my mom organizing this campaign please read and please please help:
My name is Olga Belen Osorio, I worked as a coordinator for more than 30 years in one of the schools in the Chapinero neighborhood located in Cúcuta, Colombia. Being so close to these families I know the needs of the habitants of this neighborhood and of many other neighborhoods in the same conditions as this one. In general, they are families of Stratum 1 (how we say it Colombia) in other words, extreme poverty; where some houses are made in planks with dirt floors, and there are homes with up to 7 people living in them in a very cramped space. Cucuta's quarantine began on March 23, days before the rest of the country. Under the rules of the quarantine, one person per family is allowed out to shop for essential items, only once a week. The lockdown has created deep hardship on this families, all are unemployed, since many of these people are street vendors, and if it was difficult to get the “day-to-day” (enough to live for a day) before, now it’s literally impossible.
It is immensely sad to see many of these houses with a red cloth on the doors or windows, as a symbol they have no food. I thought that there were few houses in this extreme situation, but it was terrifying to see a large percentage of this neighborhood and many more neighborhoods in the city of Cúcuta in the same condition, experiencing hunger.
A value that my mother taught me and which I transmitted to my daughters, was to be generous and to help others when they need it. Now is the time to HELP. I ask for your generosity and collaboration to collect enough funds that will be used to buy food to put together a “mercado” (groceries bag with essential goods) to be distributed to all these families. Please note, With approximately $ 50,000 pesos ($ 15 dollars) we can buy a good “mercado” per home. There is no small contribution and any amount you can and will be willing to help with is more than welcome.

Me llamo Olga Belen Osorio, trabajé como coordinadora por mas de 30 años de uno de los colegios del barrio Chapinero ubicado en Cúcuta, Colombia. Al estar tan cerca a estas familias conozco las necesidades que tienen los habitantes de este barrio y muchos otros barrios en las mismas condiciones. En general son familias de Estrato 1 donde hay extrema pobreza, sus casas algunas son en tablas y pisos en tierra y en muchos hogares habitan 7 personas o mas. Cúcuta entró en cuarentena por el coronavirus el 23 de marzo, días antes que el resto del país. El aislamiento ha sido obligatorio y muy estricto por tanto todas estas familias que he estado ayudando y que quiero ayudar se encuentran sin empleo, ya que muchas de estas personas son vendedores ambulantes, y si antes era difícil conseguir lo del día a día, ahora les queda literalmente imposible.
Es inmensamente triste ver muchas de estas casa con una trapo rojo en las puertas o ventanas, dando señal de que no tienen comida. Pensé que habían pocas casas en esta extrema situación, pero fue aterrador ver a un gran porcentaje de este barrio y muchos mas barrios de la ciudad de Cúcuta en la misma condición, padeciendo hambre.
Un valor que me enseñó mi madre y el cual se lo transmití a mis hijas, fue el de ser generosa y de ayudar al prójimo cuando lo necesita. Ahora es el momento de AYUDAR, Acudo a su generosidad en lo posible con lo que puedan colaborar para recoger suficientes fondos y con ellos repartir mercado a todas estas familias. Con $50,000 pesos ($15 dólares) aproximadamente se logra comprar un buen mercado por hogar, así que no hay aporte pequeño y cualquier cantidad con la que que pueda y desee ayudar es más que bienvenida.
