Picture this.
Your local area is rezoned overnight at the whim of an ideological driven government. Towers arrive fast. Sunlight disappears. Streets clog. Schools are “coming soon”. So is the open space. So is the drainage fix. So is the transport upgrade. So is the basic idea that density should arrive with the things that make it liveable.
It’s in the talking points. It’s in the glossy language about “complete communities”. But in practice, the only thing that reliably arrives on time is the density. The problems are immediate. The fixes are perpetually “future”.
But don’t worry — the housing targets were met.
That’s why Fair Growth Thornbury exists.
We’re a volunteer, community-led campaign fighting for a simple idea: housing policy should build communities, not just numbers to announce at a press conference. We support more homes and well-designed density. What we oppose is growth pushed at pace without proper sequencing, evidence, or the infrastructure that makes it liveable.
And as we head into an election year, the power imbalance is real. A cash-strapped government chasing quick supply wins. Well-funded YIMBY networks backed by billionaire big-tech interests. Developers and property lobbyists ready to cash in on blanket up-zoning — while communities carry the consequences.
Your donation helps us fight back with the only tools communities have: research, expert input, communications, events, media engagement and policy advocacy. No salaries. No consultants. Just volunteers fighting for our communities.
If you want more homes, done better, we’d love you with us.
