I was nearly brought to tears during a casual conversation that I had during drop-off with one of our beloved teachers at FCC. Fadumo shared her story about being separated from her family 30 years ago in the war in Somalia. She has since found her family and is hoping to go back this summer with her son to be reunited with her mother and the rest of her family members who still live there. Fadumo has given so much love to our kids and I know on a teacher salary it will be a significant financial burden to make this trip happen. The cost of airline tickets will be around $3000 and I thought that contributing to the cost of the tickets might be a good specific way for us to help. I have looked into transferring miles but it doesn’t seem very cost effective with the added fees.  I have also tried to find other organizations that might be able to help support her trip with no luck.
