Hi everyone, I’m raising funds to support my brother’s enrollment in an adult day program for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. My brother, Fabricio, is autistic and recently lost his job, which had been a major source of structure, routine, and independence in his life. Since then, it’s been incredibly difficult to find something that provides that same sense of stability and daily engagement. Without that structure, he’s at risk of becoming isolated and losing the progress he’s worked so hard to build. Although he is high-functioning in many ways, he still deeply needs consistency, purpose, and a supportive environment where he can stay engaged and continue building life skills. He deserves more than just getting by day to day—he deserves routine, community, and meaningful opportunities. Our family also faces barriers that make him ineligible for many traditional support services, including waivers and other state-funded programs. At the same time, my parents are getting older, and caregiving is becoming harder for them to sustain on their own. We are doing everything we can as a family, but the responsibility of finding and funding the right support has largely fallen on me as his eldest sibling.

We’re hoping to enroll him in a local adult day program that provides structured activities, life skills support, and opportunities to connect with others in a safe and supportive environment. Programs like this are critical for adults with disabilities, especially after aging out of school-based services.

Hola a todos, estoy recaudando fondos para apoyar la inscripción de mi hermano en un programa de día para adultos para personas con discapacidades intelectuales y del desarrollo. Mi hermano, Fabricio, es autista y recientemente perdió su trabajo, que había sido una fuente importante de estructura, rutina e independencia en su vida. Desde entonces, ha sido increíblemente difícil encontrar algo que proporcione la misma sensación de estabilidad y compromiso diario. Sin esa estructura, corre el riesgo de aislarse y perder el progreso que tanto ha trabajado para construir. Aunque tiene un alto funcionamiento en muchos sentidos, todavía necesita consistencia, propósito y un ambiente de apoyo donde pueda mantenerse comprometido y continuar desarrollando habilidades para la vida. Se merece algo más que pasar el día a día: merece rutina, comunidad y oportunidades significativas. Nuestra familia también enfrenta barreras que lo hacen inelegible para muchos servicios de apoyo tradicionales, incluyendo exenciones y otros programas financiados por el estado. Al mismo tiempo, mis padres están envejeciendo, y el cuidado es cada vez más difícil de sostener por su cuenta. Estamos haciendo todo lo que podemos como familia, pero la responsabilidad de encontrar y financiar el apoyo adecuado ha recaído en gran medida en mí como su hermano mayor.

Esperamos inscribirlo en un programa local para adultos que proporcione actividades estructuradas, apoyo para habilidades para la vida y oportunidades para conectarse con otros en un ambiente seguro y de apoyo. Programas como este son críticos para los adultos con discapacidades, especialmente después de envejecer fuera de los servicios escolares.
