Help Ethan Rebuild After Devastating Storms

Rockford area got hit with some really bad storms on July 13, 14 and 15. My son and his family took a bad hit to the foundation of their home with that first storm on July 13th. When they woke up on the 14th, my son went to the basement to get some food and found that one of his basement walls had collapsed and his basement was full of mud and water. After doing clean up all day, we got hit with storms again on the 14th, flooding his basement with even more mud and water. Ethan has been working with contractors, masons, insurance, his mortgage company, and even the city for the past 4 weeks now trying to get answers and help. He wasn't sure if their house was safe to live in, insurance won't help cover any costs, and he was waiting for quotes from different companies. 2 masons said they would rebuild the wall but wouldn't touch the structural issues that have come as a result of this storm. As of today, he finally has some answers and thankfully is not going to be 50,000 like we feared.

The following is most of the damage that was done to their home: They lost a cement wall in the basement, exposing literal earth in the basement and causing damage to even under the foundation of the house (dirt washed away from under the foundation of the house). When the wall fell it broke the first floor bathroom drain pipe. They currently can not use that bathroom. Mud and water also all over the the basement. The broken wall needs to be removed and built up. They need to redirect water outside to go away from the house so they need to dig a french drain. They may need more support beams for basement. (Thankfully, the red support beam you see in the photo stopped the wall from taking out their water heater and furnace. They had that support beam put in when they bought the house!) They need to move the AC unit to get to everything as well (they have to figure out how to do that!). The drain and sink in basement are not draining (probably full of mud) so they can not do laundry either at this time. Here is a list of what the one company will be doing, and then there are other things like plumbing etc they will need to have done as well.

Scope of Work

● Install jacks to bear the weight of the house

● Excavating for foundation access

○ Excess dirt to remain on site

● Remove the existing foundation wall about 25 ft.

● Frame the foundation wall and lay rebar according to the plan

● Pour Foundation Wall

● Add drain tile alongside new walls

● Install sump pump

● Install escape window

● Backfill and rough grade

● Install 1 French drain on east side of property

This past month has been hard on them because they are trying to safely navigate their options and what needs to be done. It is a little frustrating at how long it has taken to get to the right people that can help but THANK GOD they have arrived at such a person! They say they can do all of the stuff listed above in the bullet points maybe as early as next week but they have to be able to finance it.

If you are able to bless Ethan and his family with some assistance in repairing their home, we are forever grateful. Also please be in prayer for them. It has hit others in our community as well. The city told Ethan that 8 other homes also had similar happen and had to repair foundations. I have never heard of such a thing until it hit our own family, but it does happen. Pray for everyone who was affected by these storms. It is a huge financial burden for them too.
