Erin and Minnie are selfless helpers to everyone in need in our pet community. Now they find themselves in a terrible situation through no fault of their own and need some goodwill from us.
In May of 2021, Erin and Jim recently purchased their first house and an inspection was done that did not reflect any mold issues. On November 9, 2021, Bathfitters was hired to perform a conversation of the tub to a walk in shower. Unfortunately, as soon as the tub was removed, they found black mold and had to stop any further work. The two employees who were performing the work, called their boss, a master plumber, who went over the whole house. Mold was also found in the adjoining half bath, and in the kitchen on the wall that is on the other side of the affected bathrooms. There is also mold under the floor in the kitchen and under a portion of the dining room floor. The Insurance Adjuster said the 2 bathrooms and kitchen have to be gutted and the flooring in the dining room also needs to be replaced, however, mold is not covered by insurance.
Due to Erin and Jim’s compromised immune systems, they have had to move out of the house until it has been cleared of mold and repaired. They have been staying in a hotel since November 9, 2021 and driving to Jim’s daily medical appointments, treatments and therapies. The only hotel that had availability and would accept their 2 fur babies is over an hour away (one way). On Thanksgiving a fire at the hotel displaced them again. Erin has been exploring various resources, however, there is a long process for these programs and there is no guarantee they will be approved. Erin and Jim need help with their housing situation so they and their fur babies will not become homeless.
Erin is a very sweet, kind, thoughtful, generous, caring and loving person who does so much for so many, never expecting anything in return. She is very involved in the animal community and is always there to help others in need and for those who have lost their fur babies. She has two precious fur babies.
Although Erin has some health issues, she is also a caregiver for her husband, Jim and has a son with autism. Over the past 6 years, Jim who has been dealing with multiple medical issues, including kidney cancer, bladder cancer and Parkinson’s. Jim has also had 2 hip replacements during this time (same hip), TIA’s, heart issues and most recently, a brain bleed.
Jim is 85 years old and a 100% disabled veteran, including 3 tours in Viet Nam and is a Bronze Star recipient. Jim was honorably discharged with over 20 years of service. This is a difficult situation for them, especially during the holiday season. Let's show them the joy of the season.
