Hi my name is Meryl and I have never done this before. I have taught blind infants and toddlers for 50 years and am hoping to retire soon. Unfortunately, I can't retire until I know my neice Erica and her 5 children are ok.

 

Erica left an abusive marriage. In order to get away, she was left unable to afford a lawyer and therefore has no alimony and not much child support. She is an incredible mother something not many of us could be (including me) for 5 children with limited resources. She is not getting enough family support. Her father helps when he can. We send what we can and pay for unexpected expenses as they arise. Her car is about 11 years old and is literally held together in places with duct tape.

 

As background, my sister who was Erica's mother, died 5 years ago from a terrible illness, amyloidosis. Up to that point she supported Erica and her family both with money and time. She would never have let them get this desperate.

 

Erica is trying to work. She has gotten a gig as a homecare worker for one person and just signed up to do Doordash. These are jobs she can do when her children are at school. Covid has certainly limited her job opportunities (she has had Covid twice) and like many, her children had school from home for a long time. Now that they are back in school one child has already had to stay home because of exposure.

I am hoping to meet her need for money to meet day to day living expenses as well as a down payment for a new vehicle.
