On Thursday, March 11, 2021, my brother, Eric B. Martin (on the left in the photo), suffered a left-brain hemorrhagic stroke. When he did not show up for his part-time job, his boss tried to call with no response. Because Eric is 100% reliable, his boss was concerned and called the local police to check his apartment. Eric was found face down on the floor, foaming at the mouth.
After ER evaluation at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY, he was helicoptered to Albany Medical Center's Nuero-ICU. He remains in the hospital, now in the Stroke unit. He can not speak, and is unable to move his right hand.
Prior to this emergency, Eric has suffered several other medical issues. He is completely dependent on social security now and barely has enough to squeak by.
Eric will desperately need financial assistance for rehab stay (estimated one month), medicines and, his existing bills and future living arrangements. As of now, they are saying he will need 24/7 care and may not be able to function on his own. This care would be an out-of-pocket cost.
I love my brother and he and I will be eternally grateful for all support provided. All funds will be used for his care.
Eric has been a beloved member of his Hudson, NY community, known for his long service through the Hudson Lions Club, fundraiser for children in need, his boosterism for the Albany Ronald McDonald House and many more community-focused activities than I can name here.
I thank each and every person for the help and support they have shown since the day of this unfortunate event. Thank you for your care and concern, and for any assistance you can provide.
