This December, a small hospital in rural Guinea-Bissau will open its doors for dental care. For many families in the region, it will be the first time a dentist has ever been within reach.
We have the dental cabinets to equip it. We just need to get them there.
Your gift ships one 20-foot container of dental cabinets from the Gold Coast to the hospital. Our goal is $21,000.
What your gift helps do

Why this matters to me
Hi, I'm Dr Cristian Dunker, a dentist and the owner of ArtSmiles on the Gold Coast.
Over the 2012–2013 holidays I went to Guinea-Bissau with a team of 23 volunteers. We treated patients with a torch for a light and an ordinary armchair for a dental chair. We helped with medical care, construction and the local schools, dug wells for clean water, and organised the village's first ever rubbish collection with the children.
The missionary family we worked with became close friends, and the mission has kept growing. Today it runs schools for more than 1,000 children, and with help from people all over the world it has built a hospital for the community.
I'm going back this December to help open its dental service. I do this because I love Jesus, and I believe that love is meant to be shared with those who need it most.
Why our cabinets
ArtSmiles is moving to a new location, and new cabinetry is being built for the new practice. Rather than throw out the cabinets from our current clinic, we are donating every one of them to the hospital. In a rural hospital, good cabinetry means instruments kept clean and organised, proper work surfaces, and better care for every patient.
Where every dollar goes (estimated, AUD)
- Used 20-foot container, which stays at the hospital as secure storage: $3,500
- Packing, loading and trucking to the Port of Brisbane: $1,500
- Australian port charges and export paperwork: $1,200
- Ocean freight from Brisbane to Bissau, including transshipment and surcharges: $8,500
- Port charges, customs clearance and duties in Bissau: $3,000
- Trucking from Bissau to the hospital: $1,500
- Insurance and contingency: $1,800
Total: $21,000
Our promise to you
These figures are estimates while we collect quotes from freight forwarders. Funds go to Agir Global, the Australian company that supports the mission and sends funds to Guinea-Bissau, to pay for the shipment. We will post updates with the real costs, photos of the container being loaded, and photos of the cabinets in use at the hospital. Anything left over after shipping goes to the hospital through Agir Global. Agir Global is not a registered charity, so donations are not tax-deductible.
