Caravan for Human Rights Over Unlawful Detentions
Thanks so much for all of the support! This fundraiser is now closed.
The Caravan for Human Rights Over Unlawful Detentions is being organized by Christians for Ceasefire and Just Peace in coordination with Louisiana activists and lawyers to bring additional attention to the horrendous and unlawful detentions of persons inside the ICE facilities in Louisiana. We are doing the best we can to keep expenses to a minimum, but we are raising money for fuel costs, food costs, and the rental of at least 1 minibus (hopefully more) and any contribution is GREATLY appreciated!
We will caravan to the Central Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Jena, Louisiana to support the persons being held there, their human and legal rights, and a change of heart from the hateful ethic that is gripping our country. We will arrive at our home base in LA on June 20th. Our day of action will be in Jena on the 21st where we will bear witness at the detention center while religious leaders meet with people inside (hopefully). We will conclude the day of action back at our home base with an interfaith worship service and a community dinner with Louisiana locals. We will return to our respective homes on June 22nd.
The Bible commands nations to welcome and care for the stranger and render justice to the oppressed, but our country’s current immigration policies do the opposite. These policies rip families apart by rounding up and deporting immigrants. They target foreign students for their activism against the genocide in Gaza. They spend billions of dollars on surveillance technology and build prisons run by for-profit corporations like GeoGroup. They foster local economic dependence on a single employer (the prison) rather than building a healthy, diversified local economy that can sustain a wholesome community. These policies rapaciously spread racism throughout our communities and we would like to see this end.
