Help end moms homelessness

My name is Macy. I’m 27 years old living in Calgary Alberta. My mom’s name is Tatiana. For the past 8 years Tatiana has been struggling to survive on the streets of Edmonton while battling mental illness, chronic pain and addictions born from doctor prescribed opiates.

Tatiana has lost everything, including her home, health and family. She has been completely disconnected from us for almost a decade, as we were unable to find her. Until December, 2023 we didn’t even know if she was alive.

Late last year we were finally contacted by mom in a prison. She was in a safe place, sober and wanting to reconnect with her family, especially her 2 daughters.

Over the past 9 months while serving her sentence, Tat has been working to regain her sense of self and connection with her family. Somehow she is finding a way to recover from her heroine and methamphetameme dependencies. She never wants to lose herself or her family again. She wants to be a mother again.

Through phone calls, letters and visits, I have personally seen my mother come back to life. Her wit, sense of humour and empathy are on full display. She’s even teaching aerobics classes to the other inmates, and I hear through the grapevine the classes are full.

My mother’s set to get out of prison in October. The plan is to start a new life close to us in Calgary. Unfortunately we cannot support her on our own, and the prison system is ruthless in releasing inmates with no transitional support.

Finding housing and work with her past is a challenge, and she needs support in her continued sober living.

Funds raised will be used toward transitional living expenses including:

Housing

Transportation

Clothing

Medication

Therapies

And other life necessities to give her the safest and most supportive environment possible during this huge life change.

This is a once in a lifetime chance for our family to put our pieces back together. Right now my mom is doing everything she can in her current circumstances to help herself and we are determined to help her succeed.
