Hello, I’m creating this GoFundMe for my sister, Emily, and her boyfriend, Dakota. They had the cutest little boy, Foster, on January 11th, 2022. Emily was induced on Monday, the 10th, and due to some unforeseen circumstances, she was transported to a hospital with a level 2 nursery. She gave birth on Tuesday, the 11th. Foster surprised us all with a bilateral cleft lip and palate, which wasn’t detected on ultrasound prior to birth. Emily and Dakota were Covid positive at the time of Foster’s birth and weren’t allowed seeing Foster until January 16th. After waiting 6 days to see their sweet baby, they pushed for him to be transferred to Nationwide Children’s in Columbus, OH to begin discussing a plan for his surgeries with a team there. He was transported today, January 18th. The doctors have told Emily and Dakota that Foster cannot come home with a feeding tube, but he is still struggling to take a bottle. He does not have a soft or hard palate - he has no palate at all. We are hoping that they are able to stay in the Ronald McDonald house while Foster is being treated, but they are unable to work during this time. Dakota was unable to be listed as the father on the birth certificate because the nurse refused to go into the room since both Emily and Dakota were Covid positive. Dakota is unable to be paid for his paternity leave without a valid birth certificate as proof, so they are currently struggling to maintain their personal bills while away and caring for their newborn.
