Help Elsa make masks to protect us from Covid-19

Donation protected

On April 1st, Elsa Schimpf, my 10-year-old niece, started making masks in her Clifton, NJ home to help combat Covid-19. What started out as a sewing lesson has turned into a production line for her whole family. The masks she is making are free of charge and will go to help first responders, friends, family, friends of friends and basically anyone they find in need. So far masks have been shipped to Texas, California, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New York, NYC, and of course New Jersey. To be honest, I didn’t even ask what motivated Elsa, but I can tell you, she is one caring young lady, who has an amazing love and respect for both people and especially animals. I am not surprised one bit that she and her family have stepped up in a time of need.

Elsa’s production team is made up of her family including, her mom, Erica, her dad,Thomas, her brother, Harry and even grandma Barb is working vigorously from her home a few miles away. The first round of production from the Schimpf family produced about 100 masks. After my conversation this morning, they are moving at a faster pace with another 50 masks more than halfway done already.

That being said, I am reaching out to Facebook for help and support. People have offered help through amazon gift cards, cash etc. It’s important to Elsa and her family that all money and donations go to good use. This morning, I got permission to go ahead and set up this go fund me. I figured let’s help Elsa not only make her masks, but also help animals, which she SOOOOO dearly loves. When she grows up, she wants to be a Zookeeper and a soccer player. To know Elsa is to know she will not just befriend an animal, she will become best friends with that animal! Her and her dog, Napoleon, are two peas in a pod. Elsa is always making some form of art that usually includes Napoleon or some other animal she has a love for. Since Elsa is stepping up to help all of us, I wanted give her the chance to also help animals that are local to her.

Any money donated here will FIRST  be used to buy materials to make masks.

Costs for the masks include -thread, pins, elastic, fabric, Shipping,  etc.

Once this Covid-19 crisis is over, I had the idea of rewarding  Elsa with the left over money to help her beloved animal friends in the following two ways.

Turtle Back Zoo, West Orange, NJ
Zoos all over the country are struggling to pay for the upkeep of their animals and the employees who care for them. Elsa has visited turtle back zoo many times and since it’s local to her, this is the zoo chosen to receive a donation.

Clifton Friends of the Shelter, Clifton, NJ
Elsa would be able to take some of the money and go shopping for the animals...it will be a dream come true for her.  She can pick out toys, leashes, food, treats ....whatever the shelter may need or whatever Elsa would like the animals to have.

I hope you will consider donating to an amazing cause that will help both people and animals! When a 10 year old is called to help the world, you know we need to come together. I am so very proud of Elsa and her entire family. And I’m also very thankful to anyone who helps this amazing young lady continue to make the world a better safer place!!!
